The Gospel According To Jon of John Paul II

gos·pel
n.

4. A teaching or doctrine of a religious teacher.

I'll kickstart the first entry of 2006 with a noteworthy mention/announcement.

The weekend TODAY's sub-headlines struck me just a couple of minutes ago - I frantically flipped to TODAY EXCLUSIVE, and I (thought I) saw Angelina Jolie's father Pope John Paul II - covering almost the entire page. You'd think for a moment that he is really back. Amen to that! =)

So anyway, back to page 31 - With his hands clasped in deep prayer, eyes gently shut and with the papal zucchetto or pileolus on his head, it's no wonder that many who encountered Jon Voight donning the papal attire would think John Paul II has been resurrected and was standing right in front of them. But we know that the director, cameramen, film crew, etc present drew a thin line between the real and the reel. Also, the exclusive actually focuses on Jon Voight as an actor, a father; not on John Paul II - but who cares about Jon Voight anyway. =p

Back to JPII -

Nonetheless, in the eyes of the hundreds of people in Krakow, Poland & Rome who mobbed the filming sites just to catch a glimpse of the actor decked out in the papal finery - and for the billion others in the world too - dear John Paul II is very much alive.

Indeed, such is the impact of our dear Holy Father, that warrants such a deep emotional response from those who were witnessing the filming on site. And I'm sure it will draw the same emotions from those who'd catch the movie - which brings me to the highlight of the post:

It's out on DVD in Singapore. =)

Though for reasons unbeknown, it's not released in cinemas. I really wonder why.

Nevertheless, I can't wait to get my hands on it.
